Inside Cohoctah Township sit 3 smaller settlements: Cohoctah, Oak Grove and Cohoctah Center. Cohoctah: Unincorporated community at the junction of Oak Grove Road and Cohoctah Road that started around an 1886 grain elevator. Oak Grove: Unincorporated community about 6.5 miles north of Howell in the eastern part of the township, first settled around an 1846 grist mill village called Chemungville.
