River Rouge is a small, densely industrial city on the Detroit River in Wayne County, one of the historic "Downriver" suburbs of Detroit. We measure the indoor environment and explain it.

Industrial Downriver city at the mouth of the Rouge River whose shipyards and steelworks built more than 300 Great Lakes vessels, with Belanger Park reclaiming the waterfront for recreation. One local marker: Birthplace of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald, launched at Great Lakes Engineering Works on June 7, 1958 as the largest ship on the Great Lakes. About 2,828 households hold some 7,546 residents. The area was first reached along the "River Road" (today's West Jefferson Avenue), one of the oldest highways in Wayne County, and shifted from farmland to industry.
